Great Trees Project Officer
Having trained at Cannington College in Somerset, Jon had a first career in horticulture, woodland and countryside work. Then, studying Archaeology and Medieval studies at The University of Exeter, he embarked on fifteen years of archaeological fieldwork, largely in South West England. More recently he has enjoyed communicating a passion for the stories of places, working as a professional storyteller and actor at heritage events and sites as diverse as Tintagel Castle, Blenheim Palace and Blists Hill Victorian town.
Jon is very excited to come to this project bringing together at it does numerous strands of his past work: his passion for both the historic environment; and for the natural history of the Devon Countryside; along with his enthusiasm for the stories of people and their places.
Green Infrastructure Project Manager
Simon trained in agriculture and rural resource management before starting a career in nature conservation. He has lived in Devon for twenty years with his wife and two children and in addition to his family, he has a passion for birds, butterflies, moths, his allotment, and the conservation of natural resources.
University of Exeter Internship
On completing African Studies at the University of Birmingham and World Heritage Management at University College Dublin, Emily has worked in a number of different roles from English Heritage to the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust. Now studying Archaeology at the University of Exeter, she is undertaking some archival research on the historic landscape of Bishop Court, Sowton, for the Great Trees in the Clyst Valley project. Former Bishop’s Palace, this landscape has seen many changes in the last 800 years and will soon see more in the form of restoration tree planting and a new cycle path.
