Photo Competition Rules

  1. The Promoter

The promoter is East Devon District Council (EDDC), Knowle, Sidmouth, EX10 8HL, UK.

  1. Eligibility

The Great Trees photo competition is open to all, from complete beginners through to professional photographers of all ages. All photographs must be taken in the Clyst Valley of East Devon. That’s the parishes of Clyst Hydon, Clyst St Lawrence, Talaton, Whimple, Broadclyst, Cranbrook, Rockbeare, Poltimore, Clyst Honiton, Sowton, Farringdon, Ayelesbeare, Colaton Raleigh, Woodbury, Clyst St Mary, Clyst St George. Photos must feature trees, but otherwise can be landscapes, or details of trees (bark, leaves, seeds, wildlife living in/on trees). Employees or agents of EDDC, their families or other persons connected with this promotion are not eligible to enter. Let your imagination run wild and explore the valley, but please make sure you have landowners permission if you move off public rights of way

  1. Submission Rules

Entries must be submitted via email by the closing date for each category. No entries will be accepted by post. All entries must include your name, where you live*, your age if under 18 and a photo caption including where the photo was taken, and when. Images must be high resolution. They can be either portrait or landscape orientation. Images which include people must provide signed consent to use the image. Entries should be sent to jfreeman@eastdevon.gov.uk. By entering photos you are consenting to East Devon District Council using your images without a photo credit for marketing purposes. Images (including similar images taken from the same series of photographs) that have previously won a national or international photography award or are entered into a competition where the results are pending, are not eligible for entry.

*Privacy: Please provide your name; email address or phone number, so we can contact you to say whether you have won, or been a runner up; the town or village where you live (not your full address); your age if under 18; where the photo was taken; and a caption.

Your personal details will be held securely in a digital format for 2 years. It will be used to contact you about your entry.

Deadline for entries:

  • Summer – 1st October 2018
  • Autumn – 1st December 2018
  • Winter – 1st March 2019
  • Spring – 1st June 2019
  1. Prizes

In each of the four seasons: a winner will have their photograph printed professionally as a postcard; a runner-up prize for the best under 18 photograph will receive a free child and adult ticket for one of EDDC countryside team’s events. Winners will be notified by email following the completion of each category.

  1. Competition Judging

The Judges’ decision is final and binding in all matters and no correspondence will be entered into. A panel of four judges will choose winning images.

  1. Copyright and permissions

You warrant that the entry is entirely your own work and not copied or adapted from any other source.  You retain all rights you have in the copyright and other intellectual property rights comprising your entry. Content submitted to Great Trees photo competition may be published by East Devon District Council in print and/or digital media (including social media pages) on a worldwide, perpetual basis . Please do not submit any content if you do not agree to these terms.

  1. Liabilities

East Devon District Council is excluded from liability for any loss, damage or injury which might occur to the winner arising from his or her acceptance of the prize. The entrant will indemnify EDDC for all liabilities, including legal costs, in relation to any action or complaint taken by any third party against the Promoter in relation to the entrant’s photograph(s).

  1. General

EDDC reserves the right to amend these Terms and Conditions. These Terms and Conditions shall be governed by English law. When a photograph is submitted and the entry date has passed, the entry cannot be changed or withdrawn. Entry to the Awards shall be deemed full and unconditional acceptance of the terms & conditions.
